Bone Mineral Density uses x-rays to measure the amount of calcium and other minerals in bones; it’s used to detect low bone density and diagnose osteoporosis and osteopenia.
Osteoporosis is a condition characterized by weakened bones and the deterioration of bone tissue, and it often leads to a greater risk of fractures. BMD tests are important for those at risk of developing osteoporosis, as this condition does not typically exhibit any signs or symptoms.
Images are reviewed by one of our radiologists for interpretation. Results are sent to your Health Care Provider and you will be able to discuss the results of your exam with them.
